Beer of the Week: Wolaver’s Alta Gracia Coffee Porter

WolaversWolaver’s Alta Gracia Coffee Porter (5% alcohol): This American Porter brewed by Vermont based Otter Creek Brewing  and local farmers pours a dark, chocolate brown with a small caramel head. It smells like a mug of freshly brewed dark roast coffee mixed with bitter chocolate. Dark-roasted Dominican coffee lends itself to Alta Gracia’s overall flavor, which consists of black dark-roast coffee, a bit of malt and a hint of chocolate sweetness. It has a surprisingly thin mouthfeel, but isn’t watery. I was impressed with how smooth this beer is; definitely one of the better coffee porters I’ve tasted. Plus, you can feel good about drinking Alta Gracia because it’s brewed with organic hops and malts! Enjoy!
